Our World Tuesday, Crusell Bridge

The pylons of a new bridge in Helsinki, Finland. In real life it is situated here, but the Google map has not been updated and there is no bridge yet in the map. The bridge is known as Crusell bridge. Bernhard Henrik Crusell was a finnish composer who lived 1775 - 1838.

The bridge has rail lines for trams to both ways. Trams will go here in spring 2012. In the background there is a business park, which is one of the more colourful ones in Helsinki. The pipe in the background between the pylons belongs to Salmisaari powerplant and it is the highest construction of Helsinki at 150 metres (492 feet). The pylons of the bridge are around 50 metres (165 feet) tall.

Side view towards Lauttasaari and approaching september rain clouds.

I think this bridge will be quite popular for Helsinki photo opportunites in the near future. In typical finnish fashion there are no people in these photos. This is partly due to the fact that the area and apartment buildings on this side of the canal are not yet completed. Rain was coming too. To be honest, there is not much people walking around in Finland anyway. They just build stuff and disappear immediately after that.

This was my Our World Tuesday post. See more views on our world there.
Even though I haven´t done many My World posts recently I still thought about it at the beginning of almost every week. If I had the time for it and so on. Many weekends I took photos of places and thought how this would be good for My World. Too bad what happened to Klaus and the ending of that era. I´m still glad that the spirit lives here in Our World.

  3. This is a beautiful bridge seen from any angels, from the side, from the front.., as you let us see. I feel like I'm melting into the sky in the first image. Thank you for sharing.

  6. My first thought on seeing your first photo, was Wow! The composition and lighting are dramatic and beautiful.
I also like the shot of the swans at midnight in an earlier post very much. You have a very good blog!

  7. Oh, it's ready! I took some photos of it in May, it wasn't finished then.

    It has tender lines.

It's funny that in architect's plans and city plans and etc. there are always drawn people strolling in parks, sitting on benches, crowds of people. In Finland squares and parks and benches are too cold places to be for so many months.

  10. You're photos are beautiful! I laught at the post though... If there's no people walking around, do you need a bridge then? The first photo is amazing! I like the fact that I'm not really sure what I'm looking at.

  12. Sound of hysterical laughter here in Edinburgh at your mention of trams. We have a tram project that is now overdue, vastly reduced in scope, and will cost over £800 million for ONE LINE. Your dark brooding skies suit our mood.

  13. We have about 10 lines and they all work quite well. I have no doubts that it´s going to be good. Too bad for Edinburgh that it´s not going well. The first one is always a hard one.
